To be more specific, more women (82 percent) than men (76 percent) placed value more on benefits than pay. Millennials (between the ages of 18 and 34) were the largest group to give preference to a good employee benefits package over a pay raise, with 89 percent in agreement.
Of the benefits that employees said they valued the most, a comprehensive health insurance plan topped the list. Other attractive perks that made a positive impression on employees included solutions for retirement planning, wellness programs, and paid parental leave.
These findings make sense, especially considering that we're seeing a number of companies like Netflix make headlines for offering unique employee benefits such as increased parental leave.
As our country's economy continues to bounce back, there's no question that we are dealing with a job seeker's market. This means that in order to attract and retain top talent to your organization, you need to move beyond salary and compensation and starting thinking about the unique employee benefits that your company can offer.
In addition to offering an attractive employee benefits plan, it's also critical that you educate your employees about all of the benefits and perks available to them. Sometimes employees simply aren't aware of the benefits that they have access to, which almost negates the point of offering a comprehensive employee benefits plan in the first place. Research indicates that offering a good employee benefits education program leads to satisfied employees.
